Role Summary:
As a Senior Health Information Integration & Interoperability Engineer, you will lead and manage our data integration solutions’ development, implementation, and support. Leveraging your extensive experience with US healthcare standards (HL7, FHIR, DICOM, EDI) and interoperability platforms, you will work closely with clients to streamline data exchange across EMR/EHR systems, state registries, labs, and external applications. You will also be pivotal in our data transformation and middleware integration initiatives, ensuring HIPAA compliance and alignment with industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of data integration workflows using platforms like Mirth Connect, Redox, Iguana, and Cloverleaf.
- Implement and support HL7, FHIR, and DICOM standards to enable seamless interoperability between healthcare systems and EMR/EHRs like Epic, Cerner, Nextgen, and eClinicalWorks.
- Develop bi-directional lab interfaces and real-time messaging for various healthcare vendors, ensuring compatibility and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Conduct ETL routines, data transformation, and scrubbing processes for EDI and custom data formats.
- Collaborate with clinical and technical stakeholders to refine business requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
- Ensure data quality and integrity across all integrated solutions, implementing rigorous testing and validation processes.
- Provide technical leadership in Meaningful Use (MU2, MU3) certifications, CCDA transformations, and CQM (Clinical Quality Measures) data initiatives.
- Offer guidance on HIPAA-compliant practices and oversee data privacy and security protocols in line with federal regulations.
Qualifications:
Experience: Min 8 years of hands-on experience in health information integration and data interoperability, with a strong focus on US Healthcare and NHS environments.
Technical Proficiency:
- Expert knowledge of HL7 v2/v3, FHIR, CDA, and DICOM standards.
- Proven experience with middleware and integration tools (Mirth Connect, Redox, Iguana, Cloverleaf).
- Skilled in developing custom parsers and data extraction scripts for non-standard message formats.
- Proficiency with REST, SOAP, WSDL, and API-based data exchange.
Specialized Knowledge:
- Familiar with codified value sets including ICD-10, CPT, SNOMED, LOINC, CVX, NDC, and RxNorm.
- Knowledge of immunization profiles (e.g., Z22, Z23, Z42) and experience with state registry connectivity.
- Tools & Languages: Proficiency with Python, SQL, C#, Java, XML, JSON, XSLT, and SQL Server.
- Certifications: Experience with CCHIT, Drummond, and SLI certifications is a plus.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with clinical data analytics and reporting tools.
- Familiarity with compliance standards such as HIPAA, HITECH, and GDPR.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on continuous improvement and quality assurance.
